STATEMENT FROM HIS HIGHNESS THE DUKE OF YORK

It is apparent to me since the suicide of Mr Epstein that there has been an immense amount of media speculation about so much in his life.This is particularly the case in relation to my former association or friendship with Mr Epstein.

Therefore I am eager to clarify the facts to avoid further speculation.

I met Mr Epstein in 1999. During the time I knew him, I saw him infrequently and probably no more than only once or twice a year. I have stayed in a number of his residences.

At no stage during the limited time I spent with him did I see, witness or suspect any behaviour of the sort that subsequently led to his arrest and conviction.

I have said previously that it was a mistake and an error to see him after his release in 2010 and I can only reiterate my regret that I was mistaken to think that what I thought I knew of him was evidently not the real person, given what we now know. I have tremendous sympathy for all those affected by his actions and behaviour.

His suicide has left many unanswered questions and I acknowledge and sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure.

This is a difficult time for everyone involved and I am at a loss to be able to understand or explain Mr Epstein’s lifestyle. I deplore the exploitation of any human being and would not condone, participate in, or encourage any such behaviour.

Dopo il suicidio dell’on. Epstein, mi sembra evidente che nella sua vita c’è stata una grande quantità di speculazioni sui mezzi di comunicazione. Questo è particolarmente il caso per quanto riguarda la mia ex associazione o l’amicizia con l’on. Epstein.

Per questo motivo sono impaziente di chiarire i fatti per evitare ulteriori speculazioni.

Ho incontrato il signor Epstein nel 1999. Durante il periodo in cui l’ho conosciuto, l’ho visto di frequente e probabilmente non più di una o due volte l’anno. Ho soggiornato in un certo numero delle sue residenze.

In nessun momento durante il tempo limitato che ho trascorso con lui, ho visto, testimone o sospetto di qualsiasi comportamento del genere che successivamente ha portato al suo arresto e alla sua condanna.

Ho detto in precedenza che è stato un errore vederlo dopo la sua uscita nel 2010 e non posso che confermare il mio rimpianto di aver sbagliato a pensare che quello che pensavo di sapere di lui non era la persona reale, dato quello che ora sappiamo. Ho una simpatia enorme per tutti coloro che sono colpiti dalle sue azioni e dal suo comportamento.

Il suo suicidio ha lasciato molte domande senza risposta e condivido con tutti coloro che sono stati colpiti e che vogliono una qualche forma di chiusura.

Questo è un momento difficile per tutti coloro che sono coinvolti e sono in perdita per riuscire a capire o spiegare lo stile di vita del Sig. Epstein. Deploro lo sfruttamento di qualsiasi essere umano e non giustifico, partecipare, o incoraggiare un tale comportamento.
